At Tik Taco, we believe that great food should never come at the expense of our planet. Sustainability is at the heart of how we run our restaurant, from the way we source our ingredients to how we manage waste and engage with our community.
Waste Management
We carefully track food waste daily and look for creative ways to reduce it through our sustainable practices.
Sustainable Practices at Tik Taco
We embrace a “nose-to-tail” and “root-to-tip” philosophy in our kitchen. Every part of an ingredient is valued.
- Onion skins go into stock for our refried beans
- Chicken bones are used for stock
- Beef bones play a huge part in our consommé that accompanies our Birria Beef
- Citrus peel is never wasted but rehydrated for cocktails
- Chilli tops are repurposed, dried out and used with lime juice and salt to make a Tajin for our Margarita cocktails.
Nothing is wasted, and everything is celebrated.
Food Sourcing and Menu Choices
We choose organic produce whenever possible and proudly serve sustainably sourced haddock and crab. By sourcing responsibly, we’re able to offer dishes that are not only vibrant and flavourful but also kinder to the environment.
Supporting Our Community
Sustainability for us is about more than food. It’s also about investing in people and our local area. We host local events in the restaurant and provide catering for nearby companies, including Howdens and Birkdale High School. We’re also committed to developing local talent, our team is made up of local individuals, and we currently have an apprentice working with us while he studies to become a Commis Chef.
At Tik Taco, sustainability isn’t a buzzword, it’s part of our everyday culture. From the food on your plate to the people serving it, we’re proud to be making small but meaningful steps toward a greener, more responsible future.
Our menu is crafted with circular principles – minimising food waste, maximising whole ingredients and celebrating seasonal Mexican cooking.
